Aircraft stalls, airport in tizzy

Kolkata A Dornier aircraft that flew in from Mandalay in Myanmar for refuelling en route to Nagpur created a flutter at the Kolkata airport on Monday evening when it stalled on a crucial taxi track, blocking it after touchdown. Fire tenders had to be rushed to the aircraft in distress after the pilot of another aircraft noticed sparks from its left engine.
The non-scheduled chartered aircraft stalled on taxi track B shortly after touchdown. "The pilot may have hit the brakes hard, leading to the skidding of the plane. This led to sparks that were sighted by the pilot of a Jet Airways ATR aircraft. Once the ATC was alerted, it informed the fire department that then sent a tender," an official said. The plane with only two pilots on board was towed to hangar for checks. It is expected to fly on to Nagpur if no major snag is detected.
