Don't Throw Out Bhogapuram Airport Farmers: HC to AP

Hyderabad: Amid heated arguments that several ministers in the Chandra Babu Naidu government have played fraud with the process of acquiring land for the proposed construction of Bhogapuram International Greenfield Airport, Justice Vilas V Afzalpurkar of the Hyderabad High Court on Monday directed the AP state not to take away the land from the farmers whose land is under acquisition.
"Do not dispossess them until further orders," the judge said.
The state is in the process of acquiring 5311 acres in Bhogapuram mandal of Vizianagaram district for the airport and it also issued a notification seeking the land from farmers on August 31, 2015.
The judge was hearing scores of petitions filed by several aggrieved farmers who challenged the way the state is going ahead with its land acquisition agenda.
Appearing for the farmers, senior counsel A Satya Prasad told the court that the authorities have made several undue modifications midway to delete from the process of acquisition the land parcels belonging to TDP ministers like Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu and Ganta Srinivasa Rao and several real estate firms of Vijayawada which have bought huge land in Bhogapuram area.
