Flying for DSF may leave you with little to shop

Ahmedabad: If you are among those who are still 'planning' to be a part of shopper's paradise at the world-famous Dubai Shopping Festival which began on January 1, here's some bad news. The airfare is likely to leave a hole in your pocket before you can reach Dubai as most airlines have jacked up prices. Price of air tickets to Dubai that were between Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 on a regular day rose to around Rs 50,000 on January 1.

These prices are unlikely to drop till the month-long festival lasts. Niziya Pradhan, a 23-year-old Maninagar resident, is in Dubai right now. "I flew down on December 31. My parents are celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary so we made it special by flying to Dubai for the celebrations. The flight tickets and hotel bookings were expensive. However, the festive discounts make shopping for clothes and gold cheaper than rest of the year," said the architecture student, who will fly back to the city on January 8. Rishita Dave, 35, plans to be in Dubai from January 9 to 17.

"The airfare has shot through the roof but I am looking forward to the trip. It is a much-needed break from my busy schedule, and who doesn't like to shop? Even if the tickets are expensive, I will get to enjoy the company and culture of people from different countries in one place. This makes it all worthwhile," said the home-maker from Navrangpura.
