All International Airports Told to Harvest Solar Power: Ashok Gajapathi Raju

Kochi: The government has directed authorities of all the international airports in the country to ensure that they install solar panels of at least one-MW capacity, said Union Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju.

Appreciating the efforts made by the Cochin International Airport (CIAL), which has installed a 12-MW solar plant to become the world's first 'green airport,' the Minister said the other airports in the country could replicate the CIAL model.

The Minister also visited the solar plant at  CIAL, where 46,000 panels have been installed to cater to the airport's total power requirement of around 50,000 units/day.   "The CIAL's example of energy conservation is really good as it is cost-effective and efficient," said the Minister.
