Kolkata: Babulal Yadav, the co-owner of the agency that has the contract to manage the parking lot at Kolkata airport, is a harried man. If an ongoing dispute with app-cab drivers, cops and airport officials over collection of parking fee from taxis wasn't headache enough, he now has another problem on his hand: a ghost car in the parking lot that has prospective owners calling him every now and then.
"I am fed up with calls from people who want to purchase a cherry red Honda City that has supposedly been parked in the basement parking lot at Kolkata airport for over 20 days. When the first such call came, I went down to the parking lot to check. There was no such car. I then checked the records but no car has been parked for such a long time. Such calls continue. The car that does not exist has now become a nuisance," Yadav grumbled.
Five to six prospective buyers even turned up at the airport and demanded they be shown the car whose parking charges they had already cleared.
Sameer Sharma, who was hoodwinked into paying Rs 49,500 into an SBI bank account in Baripada, Odisha, said he first spotted the advertisement in QuikrCars, the online classified advertising platform for sale of used cars.
