Patna airport gets licence

Patna: The Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport of Patna finally received the formal operating licence from Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Monday. Sources said the DGCA started the system of issuing operating licences to airports in 2006-07, but Patna airport never got it.
Union minister of state for civil aviation Mahesh Sharma had pointed out recently that Patna airport was operating without a formal licence from the DGCA and expressed his concern over it. The licence document, issued on February 15, was handed over to the Airports Authority of India (AAI headquarters in New Delhi from where it was sent to Patna airport office.
"The DGCA teams had visited the airport on several occasions but refused to issue licence due to some shortcomings," Kumar added. He said Patna airport administration had managed to prune trees on the eastern side of the airport with the help of district administration. "Some cellphone towers installed at the western end were also removed. Apart from all these steps, several other security measures were taken by the Patna airport to ensure safety of aircraft while landing and taking off from the airport," he said.
