'Patna Airport operating without a licence'

Patna: Expressing concern over insufficient space at Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport here, junior Union civil aviation minister Mahesh Sharma on Tuesday said immediate decision must be taken before any untoward incident takes place.
Addressing the media at the BJP headquarters here, the minister claimed that the airport was still without operational licence from the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). "The airport terminal building gets crammed with the passengers of only two flights. It would reach its saturation level soon and a decision must be taken on either shifting it somewhere or its expansion at the present location," Sharma said and added that the authorities would explore Bihta or Punpun in Patna district as options for a new airport.
Earlier in the morning, Sharma attended a meeting with the authorities of Patna airport and the Airports Authority of India (AAI). "The minister was informed that the airport would reach its saturation level in the next five years," said an AAI source.
