Air travel from north Kerala would get a major boost with the first test flight touching down at the greenfield Kannur international airport at 9 a.m. on February 29.
Announcing this in the Kerala Assembly, State Ports and Excise Minister K. Babu, who is also in charge of aviation, said the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGA) has given the nod for the maiden touchdown of the test flight. The airport is located at Mattannur, around 25 kilometres east of Kannur town. The DGCA had given the mandatory clearance based on an inspection conducted by the Director of Aerodrome Standards. The airport has a 2,400-metre runway.
