3 flyers at IGI without right papers let off, lens on staff

New Delhi: Immigration officials at the IGI airport have once again landed under police scanner after three men, holding passports of the ECR (emigration check required) category, were let off even after they were caught beyond the immigration area without the mandatory clearance certificate from the office of protector of emigrants (POE) under the overseas Indian affairs ministry.
Senior police officials called it a major security lapse. "The incident was never reported to police. An FIR was registered only on March 6 at the IGI police station. We are trying to trace them," said Dinesh Kumar Gupta, DCP (IGI).
The men have been identified as Safiq, a resident of Deoria in Uttar Pradesh, Ramashish Chauhan from west Champaran in Bihar and Ansari Amiruddin of Khushinagar, UP.
The incident took place on the intervening night of January 17-18 when they were trying to travel to Saudi Arabia on employment visa. "Safiq and Chauhan, holding Indian passports and employment visa, were scheduled to board a Jet Airways flight. Amiruddin had to fly to Damam, but via Doha, by a Qatar Airways flight. They had procured the boarding pass from the airlines and the immigration clearance at terminal III without the required certificate," said a police official.
