Mangaluru: When flight IX 885 took off from IXE (Mangaluru International Airport) to DMM (King Fahd International Airport) at 5.05pm on Tuesday, it had a stamp of feminine authority all over it. Barring the loaders and engineering personnel, it was an all-woman affair right from the check in and in sync with International Women's Day. It was Air India Express' way of saluting the women, who constitute 42% of the total workforce of this state-owned airline.
Skippered by Commander Captain Tanya Anand and Captain Yuvika Sandhoo as her first officer, the flight had 159 passengers and 10 infants travelling in the flight of four-hour duration. Deepa Natrajan was the cabin crew in charge with Neha Bijoria, Shalini Kinkar and Chinju Chandran her other cabin crew. Air India station manager Nagesh Shetty organized a cake cutting ceremony for this all women crew in check in counter of the airport and wished the crew a safe flight.
While this was the third occasion that Tanya has been part of an all women crew on International Women's Day, including two occasions as the commander and once as first officer, it was second time that Yuvika was part of an all-women's crew on this day. Incidentally, this was the second occasion when the Tanya Anand-Yuvika Sandhoo duo have combined to be part of all-women crew on this day, having flown from Thiruvananthapuram to Dubai on March 8 last.
