Airport rattled by hoax call

New Delhi: The Indira Gandhi International Airport here was once again rattled following a call that claimed bombs had been placed in six departing flights.
Even though the call eventually turned out to be yet another hoax, it sent security agencies into a tizzy.
The call was received at 3.05 p.m. on Sunday by a caller who identified himself as Abdul Razak. The call was made from Dubai to a well-known hotel in North-West Delhi’s Paschim Vihar.
The caller said that bombs would be placed in the luggage of six different flights between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. — a Finnair Delhi-Helsinki flight (AY 022), an Emirates Delhi-Dubai flight (EX 511), an IndiGo flight (6E 301), Jet Airways Delhi-Kathmandu flight (9W 260), an Air India Delhi-Paris flight (AI 143) and another chartered flight (RB 206). All security agencies were informed and a meeting of the Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC) was convened at 3.35 p.m. at the airport.
“Of the six flights mentioned by the caller, only three were actually operating. The Delhi-Helsinki was delayed and parked at a stand, with an expected departure time of 9 p.m. The Jet Airways flight had already departed from Delhi at 2.06 p.m. for Kathmandu, while the Air India flight had departed from Delhi at 2.08 p.m. for Paris,” said an airport source.
