Demolish Chennai Airport's Secondary Runway Bridge, Residents Tell PWD

Chennai: The secondary runway bridge of Chennai Airport is facing the heat from residents who want it demolished as it is allegedly built below the high flood level, violating the Ministry of Environment directive.

Marvel Riverview County Owners Welfare Association secretary A Krishnamurthy has filed a complaint with the Public Works Department (PWD) secretary NS Palaniappan that the runway bridge should be demolished as the Airport Authority of India (AAI) had deviated from the runway bridge height.

The bridge's total height above mean sea level (MSL) should be 11.15m and the runway's elevation above MSL should be 13.15m. But the actual runway elevation according to the AAI was only 10.20m.
