Five customs officials caught taking bribe, arrested

Bengaluru: The CBI today arrested five CBI officials of the Customs posted at the Import Section of Customs at the Kempegowda International Airport and three touts for accepting bribes during clearance of imported goods on March 16. The arrests were made after a late evening raid at the complex.
According to officials, Narasimha Swamy, N Sundaram, V Visweswara Bhat, V Prem Kumar and K R Somasunder had hired 3 touts at the Import Section and Air India Sats Complex at the airport to collect money from agents and businessmen while clearing the goods.
During the CBI raid, the five superintendents of Customs along with three touts were caught collecting bribes from Clearing House Agents, for clearing files for release of imported goods, at the import section terminals. The CBI also seized Rs 75,000 cash from the touts on the spot.
