Bengaluru: At least 374 people missed their flights, both national and international, between 3pm and 6pm Thursday, owing to the traffic crawl on Ballari Road, sources at Kempegowda International Airport told TOI. About 30 departures were scheduled during the three-hour window.
Ballari Road is the major approach road to KIA from most parts of Bengaluru.
Those who missed flights included 10 passengers flying to Goa by GoAir. Details of flights of individual airlines could not be verified. GoAir accommodated those who had missed the flight on a later one, but not all affected fliers had this solace.
In despair, many fliers were seen wheeling their baggage and walking towards the airport, looking for a point ahead where traffic flow would ease up, and they could get transport. Many tried to share cabs from the Air Force Station near Yelahanka.
A KIA spokesperson said flights were not delayed but many reports came in of passengers who arrived late or missed their flights because of the demonstrations.
Those who landed in Bengaluru were locked up in airport shuttles and cabs for hours together on Ballari Road. However, traffic moving slowly towards Outer Ring Road helped people take diversions to their destinations.
