‘Not second best but worst airport’

Following the claim made by Director Srinagar International Airport on Friday that ours is the “second best” airport in the world, a lot of ridicule has been the expected response to it.
R K Shinde, the Director had claimed on Friday that Srinagar Airport has been rated as the “second best airport” in the world in the category of handling up to 2 million passengers per year by the Airports Council International.
“Our rating is 4.77 out of 5, which is the 2nd best in providing good services to our valued customers,” Shinde had told the reporters.
The Director had said the feat was achieved with the ‘coordination, cooperation, excellent efforts and sincerity by all the colleagues, section in-charges and security personnel working at the airport’.
But people here have mocked his claims with many terming Srinagar Airport one among those providing “the poorest service” in the world.
Alone a huge deterrent, a traveller has to go an 18-step security rigmarole before he or she actually boards a commercial plane. These check points bringing much inconvenience to the travellers.
“We have stinky and leaked bathrooms here. Even birds like sparrows are found inside the building,” an official of Srinagar Airport said.
Mushtaq Ahmad Wani, President Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI) said he was shocked when he heard that Srinagar Airport is the “second best” airport in the world. “It may be second worst airport in the world. There are no facilities available. I even told Director Airport that there are no facilities available for the travellers,” Wani said.
