Two new airlines have sought permission from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to start their operations on the Srinagar-Jammu-Delhi sector, sources told Greater Kashmir on Wednesday. The airlines include Vistara Airlines and Air Asia.
The airlines’ proposal was discussed at a review meeting of the DGCA last evening and it is a welcome development that two more airlines want to operate from the Srinagar Airport, said a senior official of the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
He said both the airlines are likely to get a nod from the DGCA and this would increase the number of airlines operating from Srinagar Airport from five to seven.
The DGCA is the Indian governmental regulatory body for civil aviation that works under the Ministry of Civil Aviation. It is responsible for implementing, controlling, and supervising airworthiness standards, safety operations, crew training in India.
Currently, Air India, Jet Airways, Go Air, Spicejet and Indigo are operating in the SXR-Delhi segment.
