'Strays in IGI core area a terror threat'

New Delhi: Immediately after the attack on Pathankot air base, Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) had written to the authorities seeking immediate removal of dogs in the operational area of IGI airport expressing fear that these strays posed a serious terror threat.
Col Rohini Kumar Pathak, head, department of landside operations for DIAL, wrote to South Delhi Municipal Corporation that "in view of the recent fidayeen attack at Pathankot and also a trend wherein dogs have been used to explode explosive devices at public places, it has become pertinent and requires urgent relocation of stray dogs from the terminal area of IGI airport".
But the SDMC was caught in a fix since rules mandated that dogs after sterilisation "shall be released at the same place or locality from where they are captured". The Animal Welfare Board said, "If dogs have actually been found in the operational areas, ensure that these strays are caught under SDMC supervision and relocated to adjacent areas such as parking lots etc after sterilisation."
