The 19-year-old man, identified as Ansal Aliyar, a native of Cheruvattur in Kothamangalam, was spotted near the fire cooling pit on the eastern side of the runway. He had scaled over the barbed coil wired perimeter wall next to the residential area in Avanamkodu when he was first spotted by CISF officials.
Officials said preliminary investigation suggested that the person was mentally unstable. Police contacted Ansal's family to confirm his whereabouts. He was booked for criminal trespass. The youth was later released on bail and sent with his family.
Senior airport officials attributed the incident to an apparent negligence from the part of the CISF personnel who had been entrusted with the responsibility of regulating the entry of men and vehicles into the protected area.
