Night landing at Gaya int'l airport suspended

Gaya: Night landing at Gaya airport has been suspended till the reinstallation of the equipment stolen on Tuesday.
Control panel, solar plate and battery were stolen from Ramshila Hills, identified as one of the five obstruction points needing special lighting arrangement for safe landing during night hours. Two flights, including Air India 234, were cancelled on Wednesday.
Confirming the incidence, Gaya airport director Dilip Kumar said it would not be safe to allow landing/take-off of flights during night hours in the absence of proper facilities at the obstruction point. "The night landing is likely to remain suspended for the next few days, as the control panel was not locally available. Efforts will be made to resume night landing at the earliest," said Kumar.
Night landing facility was first introduced at Gaya airport in February 2008 during the visit of the then President Pratibha Patil. The equipment have been stolen many times since then causing periodical suspension of night landing. The last such theft took place on March 27, 2015.
