Jaisalmer: Finally, there is hope that Jaisalmer airport may become operational by October. The airport has been lying ready for use for the past three-and-a-half years.
In a series of meetings held in the last two days in Delhi, some private airline companies have given their approval to start air service at Jaisalmer airport from October. Their final decision and dates will be announced by June 15.
Discussions were held to start air service to Jaisalmer, Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Udaipur and Mumbai. AAI Jodhpur director S K Singh said that in the meetings, GoAir and IndiGo showed interest in starting air service at Jaisalmer. Both airline companies will now explore possibilities of starting air service on two routes - Jaisalmer-Udaipur-Mumbai and Jaisalmer-Jaipur-Delhi.
The air service may begin by October and dates will be announced shortly.
