‘New policy will help revive air connectivity to Puducherry’

Puduchery: The new Civil Aviation policy unveiled by the Centre would help in reviving the air connectivity from the Airport here to different destinations, AINRC Member of Parliament R. Radhakrishnan said.

Talking to reporters here on Thursday, Mr. Radhakrishnan said that as part of the new policy, passengers will be charged Rs.2,500 for an hour’s flight on regional routes by the airlines.

This would enable the revival of the now defunct Puducherry airport and there was also a proposal to have air connectivity in Karaikal. He said that he had held consultations with the Union Civil Aviation Ministry to take immediate steps for revival of the airport in the city.

The Centre was keen to promote tourism in the Union Territory and had earmarked Rs. 85 crore for various tourism related activities in Puducherry during 2015-16.

Of the Rs.15 crore earmarked under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) during the last three years as many as 43 out of 105 infrastructural works have been completed while the remaining works are in various stages of progress.
