Runway repair schedule upsets Gaya bizmen

Gaya: The proposed repair and re-carpeting of the Gaya airport runway in the midst of peak tourist season in November has upset the business plans of Bodh Gaya hoteliers and other business interest groups, of the district, as the process is likely to adversely affect the tourist footfall.
Airport Authority of India (AAI), however, is unlikely to blink under the hotel lobby pressure. It could not have come at a worse time for the hoteliers and others, as the holy city is yet to fully recover from the impact of the July 2013 serial blasts and subsequent cancellation of the 2015 Kalchakra Puja, the most important event in the Bodh Gaya calendar.
If that was not enough, the strict implementation of prohibition, according to hotel association general secretary Sanjay Singh, has affected corporate business, the mainstay of off season livelihood of the Bodh Gaya hoteliers. There are more than 50 hotels and guest houses at Bodh Gaya catering to visitors from across the globe. "The repair should be rescheduled to the off season period to minimise the loss of business," said Singh, adding that the hoteliers had met Union culture minister Mahesh Sharma during his recent visit to Gaya and requested him to take up the matter with the aviation ministry.
