Govt may give more time to Mopa airport RFP bidders

Panaji: The state government is comtemplating an extension to bidders for the submission of request for proposal (RFP) to construct the greenfield international airport at Mopa. With the last date for submitting RFP being July 11, only two of the five bidders have shown interest in participating.
The five companies participating are GMR, GVK, Airports Authority of India, Essel Infra and Voluptas Developers. Essel Infra is partnered with Zurich Airports and Voluptas Developers which belongs to the Hiranandani group with Vinci Airports, Rome, to develop the airport.
Chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar said that final extension would be granted till end of July
Sources in the government said that two of five bidders have some issues due to which they may not submit the RFP, whereas one company has sought more time to submit the RFP. Sources added that two companies including the Airport Authority of India are closet to submitting the RFP.
"If there are only two bidders then there won't be healthy competition which is why the government is considering an extension so that at least one more bidder participates," sources said, adding that the government may extend the deadline by a week.
