The Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose terminal in Kolkata is reeling under passenger pressure. With increasing number of flights and passenger traffic, the security system has still not been updated accordingly.
Spread over an area of 20 square kilometres, even though the terminal has around 1,250 CISF personnel to guard it all year round, the required man power is more than 1,500 personnel.
The x-ray machines at gate number 1 and 5 are still not meeting the requirements of security scanning.
Entrance into the airport is manned by three personnel whereas there are 5-8 personnel at all other international terminals. Further, there is only onebarricade at the main entrance of the airport while there should be atleast three as per standards.
While CCTV cameras were recently upgraded, the triple layer security system at the entrance is still missing. Also, there are no systems to screen vehicles with luggage entering the airport premises.
