MP seeks panel to monitor working of airport

Amritsar: Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament (MP) Shwet Malik has demanded formation of a Parliamentary sub committee to monitor the working of Amritsar airport in order to improve its international connectivity.
Malik demanded constitution of the committee in a memorandum, which was submitted by him in person, to Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju in Delhi recently.
He alleged that there was a business interest inspired conspiracy to divert flights, especially international ones, to privately administered airports.
He said the Parliamentary sub committee could monitor the working of Sri Guru Ram Das Jee International Airport, act as a watchdog to guard its interests and explore more opportunities to increase flight connectivity.
In the memorandum, Malik stated that after privatisation of the Indira Gandhi International Airport, the growth of Amritsar airport had taken a back seat.
