Need for runway expansion at Mangaluru airport stressed

Mangaluru: The Airport Advisory Committee of Mangaluru International Airport has stressed the need for extending the runway length from the existing 8,300 ft to 10,000 ft.

The meeting, convened by JT Radhakrishna, Airport Director, Mangaluru International Airport, highlighted the need for acquiring land for the extension of runway.

The meeting was also informed that this issue is pending with the State government since 2012.

Other infrastructure development works such as the construction of parallel taxiway and expansion of terminal building were reviewed at the meeting. These works have already been sanctioned by the Airports Authority of India.

The advisory committee also discussed the need to introduce new airlines to Mangaluru and to operate buses between the airport and the city by the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation.
