Now, CIAL sets a model for others in financial prudence

Kochi: The prudence with which Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) has utilised its resources to build the new, 1.5-million square feet international terminal has raised interest among private operators, who have visited the airport recently.

Sources said that a team from Delhi visited CIAL recently to take a look at the facilities at the upcoming terminal, which is due for commissioning in the first week of September. The Association of Private Airport Operators, of which CIAL is also a member, has also shown interest in studying the Kochi model, sources said.

CIAL’s new terminal (T3) for handling international passengers has cost a total of Rs.1,000 crore, which is considerably lower than the cost of similar facilities recently built in the country, according to the sources.

CIAL has announced on its Facebook page that the new terminal will be inaugurated in early September. The page also has the first pictures of the conveyor belts installed at the terminal. The pictures posted on Monday include those of the wall-mountings, aero-bridges and the arrival duty-free area of T3.
