Sixty families may lose land

Thiruvananthapuram: The suggestion of chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan to speed up handing over the 18.53 acres to the airport authority of India has spread panic among the residents in Chackai ward.
"My family had shifted from Madurai to Vayyamoola in search of work around 30 years ago. It was after much difficultly we received the title deeds in 2012, now we are informed that they will take over our only property," said Vellamma, who works as a dhobi.
Chackai ward councillor K Sreekumar said around 10 families living in the area do not have title deeds and are living in puramboke land for the past several years. He also pointed that it will be difficult for such people to receive any compensation during land acquisition.
As per the directive of district collector, they have been asked to submit a consent letter, copy of the receipt of land tax and expected compensation at special tahasildar office in a week.
