Tiruchi: Officers seized 4.05 kg of methamphetamine, a psychotropic substance, which was being smuggled by H. Mohamed Fazul Haq, a Malaysia-bound passenger, at the airport here in the late hours on Thursday.
The accused, a resident of Kilakarai in Ramanathapuram district, was arrested and produced before a judicial magistrate court here. Officials said Mohamed Fazul Haq came to the airport to board a Malindo Air flight to Kuala Lumpur on Thursday night. Acting on intelligence, officers of the Air Intelligence and Central Intelligence Units of Tiruchi Customs examined the baggage of Mohamed and found the substance concealed in a specially made pack inside the bottom part of a bag.
He was arrested as methamphetamine is a psychotropic substance, possession, sale, transport and export of which is prohibited under Section 8 (c) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. The international value of the seized substance was put at Rs. 5 crore.
