SpiceJet suspends two employees nabbed by DRI for gold smuggling at MIA

Mangaluru: In line with the airline policy of zero tolerance for any malpractice by its employees, SpiceJet has suspended two of its employees nabbed by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on charges of gold smuggling at Mangaluru International Airport. The DRI sleuths on Friday had taken two SpiceJet employees into custody after they seized gold biscuits on board Mumbai-Mangaluru flight number Sg479.
The flight was on its domestic run on Mumbai-Mangaluru sector via Dubai. SpiceJet initiated disciplinary action against the employees Mohammed Anif, senior CSE, airport services and O A Muddaiah, security officer suspending them from services with immediate effect pending complete enquiry and investigation by the relevant agencies, a spokesperson for SpiceJet stated in a communique.
"We are extending all our support to officials for smooth proceeding. Being a responsible corporate citizen, we would like to reiterate that we have zero tolerance for any malpractices by our employees and we will take such strict action against them as may be necessary," the communique added. DRI deputy director Vinayak Bhat had indicated complicity of the staff in the gold smuggling.
