Surat: Surtis, especially groups crusading for increased air-connectivity and better infrastructural facilities at Surat airport, are elated at the appointment of former municipal commissioner of Surat, Guruprasad Mohapatra as chairman of Airports Authority of India (AAI).
Mohapatra, a 1986 batch IAS officer, worked as a municipal commissioner in Surat from 1999 to 2002, during which time he was actively involved in the process of converting Surat into one of the models of urban governance in the country, with its thrust on Solid Waste Management practices, quality infrastructure and financial management.
While work on increasing infrastructural facilities at Surat airport is going on with the extension of runway from 2,250 metre to 2,905 metre, airport groups expect Mohapatra to work towards uplifting the facilities.
