Aurangabad: The sessions court on Sunday remanded the Aurangabad airport director, arrested by the CBI in an alleged bribery case, in the custody of the investigating agency till August 3.
On Saturday, the anti-corruption division of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Alok Varshney, who was posted as the director of the Chikalthana Airport here, for allegedly taking Rs 10,000 as bribe from a private firm official for ground clearance work.
Special CBI Judge Pournima Karnik allowed the agency to take Varshney into custody as its officials wanted to question him.
After being arrested, Varshney was interrogated for three hours, a CBI source said. The CBI had carried out searches at his office and official residence. "Searches are still on at his residence and office at the airport," an official said.
A CBI spokesperson said a case was registered against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act following a complaint from a private company based in Malad (West), Mumbai.
