Four flights bound for Kolkata were diverted to Biju Patnaik International Airport on Wednesday evening due inclement weather conditions there.
Airport Director R Mahalinganm said, four flights - two of Indigo, one of Air India and the fourth one of Spicejet landed at the BPIA one after the other. All four of those were airborne 10:30 pm after weather conditions in Kolkata improved.
Contacted Air India Station Manager Tapas Ranjan Ray said, the flight AI 764 took from from Delhi at 5 pm.
It was scheduled to land at Kolkata at 7:20 pm but took a de-tour to Bhubaneswar due to the occurrence of a cyclonic storm at teh destination. The aircraft took off from BPIA at 9:45 pm, he added.
