Delay in upgrading landing system hits air service hard

Indore: Delay in upgradation of landing system at the city airport is badly affecting air travelers as due to bad weather one flight was diverted while another was cancelled on Friday.

This is the eighth time in last two months when flights were either diverted or cancelled following poor weather.

On Friday, due to low clouds, two flights were not able to land at the city airport.
Both AIC 635 Mumbai-Indore and 6E 245 Raipur-Indore arrived here at their scheduled time of 9.25 am and 9.55am, respectively. But due to bad weather, the flights were not allowed to land at the city airport.

However, later AIC 635 returned from Bhopal and operated, while 6E 245 Raipur-Indore on its return from Baroda could not land here and diverted to Mumbai. Finally, it was cancelled. As per information, passengers of this flight have been accommodated on different routes by the airliner.

According to experts, upgrading of instrumental landing system (ILS) at the airport was chosen at a wrong time. ILS is an important instrument that helps aircraft during landing. Its key features tell whether the aircraft is aligned and maintained a proper slope. ILS and glide path help reduce chance of errors, mostly when visibility is very low.
