I-Day survey finds chinks in IGI security armour

New Delhi: A joint survey by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, CSIF and Delhi Police has found a number of security loopholes at IGI Airport. It was conducted following a meeting of the Airport Security Committee, which was attended by the airport operator, immigration and airlines staff as well as security agencies on Friday.
Several measures were suggested to fix the problems. According to sources, the security audit was conducted in the wake of intelligence inputs about possible terror attacks at the country's airports. Additional measures are being implemented in view of the Independence Day celebrations.
Friday's inspection has exposed the vulnerability of the domestic terminal. Agencies found that nearby slum clusters and labourers working at a Metro construction site, most of whom are unverified workers, were posing a risk. The authorities have ordered an increase in the number of CCTV cameras inside and outside the terminal.
"Certain decisions have been taken to step up the security on the city side and pickets have been raised at entry points. Even the security on the outer periphery has been tightened," said a senior police officer.
