Immediate acquisition of 285.47 acres sought for Coimbatore Airport

Coimbatore: With the acquisition of 627.89 acres land for the first phase of the Coimbatore International Airport (CIA) expansion getting delayed by nearly 13 years, Airport Authority of India (AAI) officials here, on Wednesday, sent a detailed report to the Civil Aviation Secretary on the immediate land requirement to kick start these expansion works.

“We have sought 285.47 acres immediately and the rest could be acquired while work is under way in the acquired piece of land,” Airport Director G. Prakash Reddy told The Hindu .

The report also contains a map on the land required for immediate acquisition and the entire area of 627.89 acres to be acquired as part of the first phase.

It was prepared and sent on the direction of Civil Aviation Secretary Rajiv Mayank Chaubey following a representation made by representatives of the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry – Coimbatore (ICCIC) in this connection, last week.

On the immediate requirements, the Airport Director said that it had to begin with the 35.51-acres required for the basic strip of the existing runway
