Kochi: The Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL) and Thiruvananthapuram Airport have registered an impressive growth in domestic passenger handling in the first quarter of the current fiscal, recording a growth of 19.2 per cent and 37.5 per cent respectively, while Calicut Airport, which was partially closed as part of runway renovation, witnessed a marginal growth of 7.2 per cent during the same period.
Though CIAL, which is ranked 10th on the list, handled as many as 8,86,441 domestic passengers against the 7 ,43,356 domestic passengers during the same period in the previous year, its growth rate fell below the national average of 20.4 per cent recorded during April-June period in 2016-17, for the second straight year.
CIAL, which registered a growth of 16.3 per cent in the 2015-16 fiscal compared to the previous fiscal, was also way behind the national average of 21.2 per cent in the same period, according to the report.
