No occupancy certificate for high-rise buildings near airport

Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has cancelled the order issued by the local self-government secretary, which directed the city corporation to provide occupancy certificate to high-rise buildings within 20km radius of the airport which had got building permit before 2010. The order was issued in March citing that the height restrictions imposed by Airport Authority of India (AAI) in 2010 did not have retrospective effect and that all the buildings for which occupancy certificate were delayed had received permit before 2010 based on section 32[2] of Kerala municipality building rules and site elevation certificate issued by PWD executive engineer.
As per the latest order issued on August 8, the order to issue occupancy certificate has been cancelled. Five constructions including two constructions by HLL life care ltd and National games secretariat and three residential apartments near Akkulam were denied occupancy certificate as AAI denied no objection certificate (NOC) to these buildings highlighting factors like risk of collision, erroneous operation of equipment onboard an aircraft and security threat to VVIP flights.
