Kolkata: A canine was seen on the runway at Kolkata airport on Saturday evening, forcing an Air India flight to abort landing and hover around till the trespasser was chased away. It caused quite a flutter, coming within days of the Emirates landing accident at Dubai.
An Indigo flight from Varanasi was also preparing to land when the pilot of AI 764 Delhi-Kolkata flight alerted him and asked him to go around. was also about to land when the air India pilot warned him about the dog. It's not yet known if the trespasser was a dog or a jackal. The air traffic control officer immediately alerted the runway ground staff that despatched a vehicle to rush to the spot and drive the animal away. The team could however not spot the animal that had filed by then.A team rushed to the runway but the animal had fled by then. Sources said the flight landedreturned to land around 10 minutes later after an all-clear from the ATC.
