Travel agent with 26 passports nabbed at MIA

Mangaluru: Mangaluru City police arrested a travel agent on charges of illegally possessing passports of persons other than his own. Based on a complaint from immigration authorities at Mangaluru International Airport (MIA), police arrested Abdulla, 43, resident of Taliparamba in Kannur district, Kerala, after immigration authorities found 26 passports - 24 Indian and two US -- with him at the airport late on Tuesday.

Police said Abdulla, who runs a tours and travel agency - Zam Zam Travel Agency in Kanhangad --had collected passports of Indians in Dubai assuring them he'd provide an attractive and economical Haj tour package from Kanhangad. When Abdulla reached Kanhangad on August 5, he was informed the slots for Haj had closed and he could not honour the promise. He was set to return to Dubai via MIA when immigration authorities found the passports.
