112 buildings near airport face action from aviation body

Mumbai: The Bombay high court on Thursday directed the directorate general of civil aviation (DGCA) to take "prompt action" in respect of 112 buildings which are inside the approach funnel at Mumbai airport.
The approach funnel is a space earmarked for safe landing and takeoff.
A bench headed by Justice V M Kanade directed the aviation regulator to complete the exercise of issuing show-cause notices to all 112 owners/developers within 3 months and take a decision. "If there are any violations in respect of the funnel area, prompt action will have to be taken by DGCA after following due procedure established by law and take appropriate action against those who have violated the said restrictions," it added.
The court was told by senior advocate Pravin Samdani, appearing for Mumbai International Airport Limited which runs the operations at the airport, that its survey detected 112 cases which will be forwarded to DGCA for taking action. The bench said it is a "serious matter" and DGCA must act.
