Chennai man with LTTE links held at Pune airport

Chennai: The Pune airport police on Thursday arrested a Chennai resident with LTTE links before he was to board a flight for Germany. The Tamil Nadu 'Q' branch has been asked to check his background.
Immigration officials at Pune airport found the man's passport and visa fake and alerted police.
During interrogation, the man whose passport gave his name as Marimuthu Raja identified himself as Sudhan Subbiah of Tiruvelli East near Jaffna in Sri Lanka. After Class 11 at Songuda Hindu College in Jaffna in 2000, he completed an automobile mechanic course at Kokwil Technical College in Jaffna. He worked at an LTTE army unit camp and received arms training before leaving in 2005.
He worked to ferret out land mines and undertook house painting contracts before leaving for Dubai where he worked as a supermarket salesperson till 2014. In June 2015, he came to Chennai on a tourist visa and lived in Valasaravakkam. He began looking for opportunities in Europe and finally got a job with a firm in Germany.
He used a fake passport and was caught. "A man named Ali in Chennai helped him make the passport," a senior police officer said.
