Connectivity should benefit all, say citizens

Bengaluru: Although the government's proposal to ensure seamless connectivity to the airport through metro has buoyed the citizens of the city, they believe that the route must not be finalized without a thorough debate, and careful consideration of the pros and cons of all nine suggested routes. President of the Citizens Action Forum, Kalyan Nagar, DS Rajshekar said that he preferred the NagwaraKannur-Bagalur route, which he believes will be of benefit, not only to travellers to KIA, but also to those going to work in places such as Manyata Tech Park.
"Most roads along this line are wide, and would sustain minimal damage. It would also see fewer trees being felled. The government should freeze other projects and adopt this one on a war footing," he said.
However, secretary of Bengaluru South Resident Welfare Association, A Manjunath opined that the KR Puram route would cover the maximum area and also benefit scores of IT employees. "The KR Puram route also has a lot of software companies. Also, it has a 200ft road, which means there is adequate space for construction work," he added.
Ashwin Subramanian, a volunteer with Whitefield Rising said, "Whitefield residents would prefer the route that connects them to Byappanahalli metro station. The KR Puram route through Buddigere cross would be the best suited for us."
