Jet Airways will provide its pilots with iPads in an effort to improve operations and move towards completely paper-free cockpits.
Under the new scheme, pilots on Jet’s fleet of Boeing 737 aircraft, which commonly operate on domestic and short-haul international routes, will have the ‘Electronic Flight Bags’, which contain all the necessary route maps, charts, aircraft manuals and associated paperwork in a digital format.
This forms part of Jet’s “less paper” cockpit plan which was instigated in 2007 and has so far been rolled out to its Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.
The airline has already trained 500 crew to use the iPads as part of the first phase of the paperless transition, with the remaining pilots due to be up-skilled over the next six to eight months.
