Construction not yet complete at Chandigarh airport

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh international airport has landed itself in criticism. Taking cognizance of a critical report submitted after a team led by senior advocate Manmohan Lal Sarin inspected the facilities at the international airport, the Punjab and Haryana High Court today asked Punjab and Haryana to respond to the issues raised.
The Bench of Justice SS Saron and Justice Lisa Gill also directed Chandigarh International Airport Limited to file its reply to the inspection report. The 17-member team, led by Manmohan Lal Sarin, had visited the airport to check the facilities available to the passengers after being asked by the Bench to carry out the inspection.
The report made it clear that the construction was yet not over, even in the area where 18 food and beverage shops were to come up. “It was found that the shops were still under construction and the quality of beverages and snacks available on the stalls are not as per the standards of an international airport,” the report said.
Besides, pre-paid taxi counter for the passengers alighting from domestic or international flights was absent. Sarin, earlier appointed as the amicus curiae or the friend of the court, added four visa-on-arrival counters were in existence, but were unmanned as approval for the same was yet to be received from the authority concerned.
The inline baggage system had not been installed at the airport. From the security point of view, an international airport must have in-line screening system or screening after check in.
