Land acquisition to begin for Adampur airport soon

The district administration will soon begin the process to acquire land for the construction of an airport terminal at Adampur.
Deputy Commissioner KK Yadav said the necessary changes in the district revenue map had been made in accordance with the changes required by the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
“The AAI had sent us the Google imagery of the land area to be acquired for the construction of the airport to make changes in the district’s revenue map. We have recently done the changes and are now waiting for the go-ahead from the AAI to begin the acquisition process,” said Yadav while speaking to Jalandhar Tribune.
Earlier, the BJP and Akali leadership were deadlocked over the allotment of the land for the proposed domestic airport at Adampur for the past one year. Though state BJP chief Vijay Sampla had initiated the project and got the necessary approvals from the Ministry of Defence (MoD), Ministry of Civil Aviation and the AAI for the airport to be constructed on 80 acres, the state government was not ready to allocate more than 40 acres for it.
Later, with The Tribune highlighting the tussle, the BJP hurriedly called a meeting of civil aviation officials, officials of the AAI and also Vishwajeet Khanna, Principal Secretary, Civil Aviation, Punjab, and asked them to begin the process in 40 acres only.
