Customs seize 25 kg of Agarwood at Mumbai Airport, one held

The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) at Mumbai Airport intercepted a passenger smuggling 25 kg of Agarwood. The passenger belonged to Jugijan, Assam.
The valuation of Agarwood is approximate Rs 5-6 lakh per kg, in India. In the international market, the price goes up by 2-3 times depending on the market.
As per the rules, the export of Agarwood is restricted and is allowed only under licence and shall also be regulated according to the rules notified under the Biological (Diversity) Act, 2002.
