Runaway jackal finally trapped at airport

It was after a fourmonth-long hunt that a jackal was trapped from the premises of Lucknow airport on Saturday . The animal, a female, was sent to Lucknow zoo.
After pug marks of a jackal were seen as close as 900 metres from the runway in August, the Lucknow airport authorities had brought the matter to the notice of the forest department. Ten cages and 10 sensor-enabled cameras were installed across the 4sq km area of the airport premises to trap jackals.
The cages and camera will continue to be in place."There might be more jackals," said range officer, Sarojininagar, MP Gautam.
The camera feed had shown a pair of jackals and their young one.
Forest officers have tried various strategies to rid the place of jackals. One such strategy was to scare the animals away. Tiger and leopard stool was collected from the zoo and strewn around the area where pugmarks were found. "The scent of the stool gives jackals a feeling that big cats are around and they leave the place," said the range officer.
