Karipur airport gets new Instrument Landing System

The new Instrument Landing System (ILS) installed at the Karipur Airport will be commissioned soon.
The air calibration tests prior to the commissioning of the new ILS system will be held on December 7 . The tests would be made using a special aircraft of Airport Authority of India (AAI), Karipur Airport director K Janardhanan said in a press release issued here on Tuesday .
The new Normarc 7000 B ILS has been installed on Runway- 28 of the airport at a cost of Rs Three crore by replacing the old ILS installed in 1996.
The Instrument Landing System (ILS) enables landing of aircraft even in poor visibility conditions caused by fog or heavy rains. It provides precision lateral and vertical guidance to an aircraft approaching the runway using a combination of radio signals.
"Having an advanced ILS is crucial for an airport like Karipur which has a table top runway," the airport director said.
