No new airport infra for vibrant 2017

The air passenger and aircraft traffic has seen substantial increase with every biennial Vibrant Summit. During January 2013 summit, 4 lakh passengers and 3,244 aircraft arrived at the city airport which increased to 5 lakh passengers and 3,350 aircraft during January 2015. Expecting increase in passenger and private aircraft traffic during the upcoming January 2017 Vibrant Summit, hectic parleys have started between the state government and Airports Authority of India. It should be noted that such exercises and plans are carried before every Vibrant Summit but nothing emerges from it.

Ahead of 2015 Summit, it was decided to allot additional space for private aircraft, install two aerobridges and set up additional check in counters but none of the proposed measures are likely to be installed before the Summit. This year, the Summit will be held between January 9 and 13. Twelve countries will be participating as partner countries. The addition to 2017 Summit is the Noble Prize Series on January 9, involving participation of nine Nobel laureates. Post-summit, like every time, there will be Ahmedabad Kite Festival which attracts several international kitists to the Sabarmati Riverfront.
